For all the talks about Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma, few teams have been more impressive than Louisiana State University in the opening two weeks of the college football season.

The Tigers have accumulated over 1,000 yards and 100 points in the first two games combined, with the latest coming on the road against No. 9 ranked Texas.
LSU beat the Longhorns 45-38 at Texas Memorial Stadium, with Joe Burrow throwing for 471 yards and four touchdowns.

The senior quarterback has now passed for 749 yards, nine touchdowns and an interception, with an 81.8 percent completion rate.

It’s no surprise that Burrow feels he belongs in the Heisman Trophy conversation along with the likes of Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, Jalen Hurts and Justin Fields.

“I always kind of knew it,” he was quoted as saying by ESPN after the win over Texas. “I think everybody’s starting to see it a little bit.”

Aside from Burrow, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Justin Jefferson have also impressed so far. The former leads the team with 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while the latter has 14 receptions for 250 yards and four scores.

Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall Jr., meanwhile, both have 10 receptions for 168 and 154 yards respectively.

Winning on the road against the Longhorns pushed LSU up to fourth in the Associated Press Top-25 poll, while Texas slid from ninth to 11th.

The Tigers’ next assignment couldn’t be more different, with Northwestern State traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, this weekend.

The Demons are 0-2 in the FCS—the second tier of college football—after losing 33-7 to Midwestern State last week.

Quarterback Shelton Eppler has thrown for a combined 564 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games, completing 68.2 percent of his passes.

The Demons are averaging 363 total yards per game, but have failed to make territorial advantage count and are averaging just 13.5 points per game so far.

On the other side of the ball, the tale of the tape for Northwestern State is just as disappointing as the Demons have conceded a combined 75 points in the first two games.

Considering LSU has recorded an average of 50 points and 522.2 yards of total offense in its opening two matchups, Northwestern has an enormous task on its hands.

The Demons have lost in each of 11 previous meetings against the Tigers and the matchup against LSU comes at the wrong time.
